Inside, wrapped in foam that had yellowed like teeth, the module was smaller than its designation implied. Its face was matte-black ceramic, notched notches at its circumference like punctuation marks. Two pins blinked with a nervous amber; a bar of hand-etched code ran along its side: 9e102.
