Anime Keyframe Link -

keyframe

An anime (or genga in Japanese) is a primary drawing that defines the essential movement, pose, and structure of a scene. These frames are the "anchors" of animation, determining the timing and flow before "in-between" frames ( douga ) are added to smooth out the motion. The Role and Anatomy of Keyframes

  • Multiple Lines: You’ll see three or four pencil strokes for a single arm. The animator is searching for the perfect angle.
  • Motion Lines: Swirling lines around fists or hair to indicate speed.
  • Notes: Written Japanese instructions like “Sabi” (slow settle) or “Tame” (hold for impact).
  • No Coloring: Pure black pencil on paper (or digital layers). Color is added later by a separate department.
