Malaysian Education and School Life: A Journey Through Diversity, Exams, and Extracurriculars
- UPSR (Primary School Achievement Test – abolished in 2021 for most schools, but its ghost still haunts pedagogy). It determined entry into elite boarding schools.
- PT3 (Form 3 Assessment – abolished in 2020). This was a streaming exam that pushed students into Arts, Science, or Vocational tracks.
- SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia – the "O-Level" equivalent). Taken at Form 5 (age 17). The SPM is the great sifter: your results determine if you go to pre-university, matriculation college, or directly to a Form 6.
- STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia – "A-Level" equivalent). A notoriously difficult two-year pre-university program (Form 6) known for its high failure rate.
