To simply witness? Unlike animals bound by instinct, humans can choose their “here” to some extent — and more importantly, they can interpret it. Viktor Frankl, the psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor, argued that meaning is not something we invent but something we detect. Even in suffering, we can answer: “I am here to endure with dignity” or “I am here to help another.”
