DIY prayer kneeler plans work by balancing aesthetic simplicity with the mechanical requirements of weight distribution. By focusing on a sturdy base and ergonomic heights, a builder can create a functional piece of furniture that facilitates comfort and focus.
From the 1x12 Board (Sides):
- Sand and finish boards before final assembly where convenient.
- Attach front legs to underside front edge of base with wood glue and countersunk screws (2 screws per leg). Position legs inset 1" from sides.
- Attach rear supports to underside rear edge of base with glue and screws; set them inset 1" from sides. If using a slanted top/back support, mount it on top of rear supports so pad leans back ~15–20°.
- Fasten side braces between front and rear legs on each side (about 1" below top), to stabilize—use glue + screws.
- If adding a back/top support piece, glue and screw it to the rear supports at chosen angle; counter-sink screws and fill for a clean look.
- Cut foam to size; wrap with batting then fabric. Pull taut and staple to underside of plywood top (if you prefer a removable top, glue foam to a 12" × 8" plywood top first).
- Attach padded top to the top/back support using screws from underside of base or with removable bolts for upholstery access.
- Fill screw holes, sand smooth, then stain or paint. Finish with polyurethane for durability.
- Add felt pads to base to protect flooring.
