Gran Turismo 8 on PC: The Dream, The Reality, and Why It’s Inevitable
8. Release Date & Pricing (Prediction)
- Polyphony Digital is slow. GT7 took 5 years after GT Sport. GT8 is likely targeting 2027-2028 alongside the PS6. A PC version might be a later port, not day-and-date.
- Kazunori Yamauchi’s vision. The man is a car-obsessed perfectionist who builds physical scale models of dealerships. He has historically seen PlayStation as the "at home" extension of the real driving experience. He’s not a PC gamer. His team would have to optimize for thousands of hardware combinations – something they have zero experience with.
- Anti-cheat & Economy. Gran Turismo has an in-game economy with microtransactions (credits). On PC, hackers could easily inject credits, ruin sport mode leaderboards, and bypass always-online checks. Polyphony would need robust anti-cheat (e.g., Easy Anti-Cheat or kernel-level).
- The "Sim Cade" identity. PC sim racers are notoriously elitist. If GT8 launches on PC, it will be compared directly to Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing, rFactor 2, and Automobilista 2. GT’s simplified tire model and lack of realistic FFB detail might be ridiculed.
