Identifying Your Current Firmware Version
If you run a mixed environment with Windows 11 and future OS versions, consider phasing out j8003e-based printers over the next 2–3 years. For now, keeping the firmware updated is the best way to ensure stability.
- TFTP from a running device (
tftp -g 192.168.1.100 -r config/firmware.bin). - Direct flash readout using JTAG (Segger J-Link) on the debug header (J1, pins 3–7, 3.3V logic).
- Ensure FTP is enabled on the Jetdirect (usually port 21).
- Open command prompt and type:
ftp [printer-ip-address]. - Log in (default credentials: admin / blank password or the printer’s admin password).
- Set binary mode:
bin. - Upload the firmware:
put firmware.rfu JDIAGUPDATE.RFU. - The Jetdirect will process the file and reboot.
