Downloading the OpenNebula Sandbox 5.0 OVA

OpenNebula 5.0 "Wizard" was a landmark release that introduced major overhauls to the Sunstone interface and marketplace integration. While newer versions like OpenNebula 7.2 are now available, the 5.0 Sandbox remains a popular choice for educational environments and legacy testing.

VirtualBox is the most accessible hypervisor for Windows 10. Follow these steps precisely:

  • The sandbox uses default credentials. Change them immediately if exposing the VM to a shared network.
  • Never port-forward the Sunstone UI (port 9869) directly to the internet from your Windows 10 machine.
  • Use Windows Defender Firewall to restrict inbound access to the VM’s IP only.

Alternative

: The OpenNebula GitHub repository’s “release” section for version 5.0 may also contain the OVA. Search for “OpenNebula 5.0 sandbox OVA” on GitHub.

Have you tried running OpenNebula on Windows 10?

Let me know in the comments – and if you hit any snags with the OVA import, I’m happy to help debug.
