Exercise Repack — P1 English Writing
This exercise focuses on descriptive language and using the five senses. Part 1: Vocabulary Warm-up
- Prompt: "What did you do on Saturday?"
- Task: They write two sentences. It doesn't matter if it is boring ("I ate rice."). The goal is fluency, not creativity.
- Key feature: Fill-in-the-blanks with a word bank.
- Goal: Subject-verb agreement (e.g., "She runs" not "She run").
- Fine Motor Control (The physical act): Can they grip the pencil? Are they forming letters from top to bottom?
- Phonetic Awareness (The sound): Can they stretch out a word (e.g., "d-o-g") and write the corresponding letters?
- Sight Words (The memory): Can they instantly spell high-frequency words (the, and, I, you, is, to)?
- Capitalization (The rule): Do they know that "i" is not a word; it must be "I"?
- Spacing (The visual): Are they leaving "finger spaces" between words?
- Issue: The text looks like one long word: "Thecatissleeping."
- Fix: Give them a popsicle stick. After every word, they place the stick down as a space holder.
