English Translation (Griffith adapted):
- Pavamāna means “flowing, purifying oneself.” In ritual, Soma is pressed, mixed with milk/water, and strained through a woolen filter. The hymn is recited during the Abhiṣekam of idols, especially Lord Viṣṇu/Nārāyaṇa, and during Graha Śānti (planetary pacification).
- Philosophical interpretation: The hymn is not just about the plant Soma; it allegorizes the individual soul (jīvātman) being purified through self-discipline (tapas) to become the universal Self (paramātman).
