Q3: My ISP says “no update available” but I have issues. Now what?
ISP stages firmware on a TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) server.
You reboot the modem – During the handshake with the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System), the modem checks if its current firmware matches the ISP’s baseline file. If not, it requests the new file.
Download and flash – The modem downloads the new firmware over the cable connection, writes it to flash memory, and reboots again.
Verification – The ISP’s network checks the modem’s new MD5 signature to confirm a successful flash.
