Sholay is set in the fictional town of Ramgarh, which is plagued by the notorious dacoit (bandit) Gabbar Singh (played by Amjad Khan). The story revolves around two friends, Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), who are hired by the local police officer, Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), to capture Gabbar and bring him to justice.
