Uninstall any previous V-Ray versions (use Revo Uninstaller for a clean registry).
Turn off antivirus (temporarily) – legacy installers often trigger false positives.
Ensure SketchUp 2017 has been opened at least once (to write registry keys).
Clean Install: If you have an older V-Ray version (like 2.0), uninstall it completely via the Control Panel. Delete the V-Ray folders in C:\Program Files\Chaos Group to avoid conflicts.
Run the Installer: Execute the vray_34_sketchup2017_win_x64.exe file.
Select Installation Path: The installer should automatically detect your SketchUp 2017 installation directory.
License Server: During installation, the Chaos Group License Server will be installed. You must configure this to point to your license (dongle or online license server) for the software to work.
Keep modeling and rendering tasks conceptually separated: model for form, prepare materials and lighting for shots.
Reuse material libraries and proxy assets across projects to maintain efficiency and consistency.
Develop a set of standardized render templates (fast preview, medium-quality client review, high-quality final) with fixed camera and naming conventions.
Automate repetitive tasks where possible: script export/import pipelines or use batch tools for render element processing.
Maintain a “look book” of favorite HDRIs, IES profiles, and material presets for quick reference.
