The SWTOR Security Key app (mobile authenticator) adds two-factor authentication (2FA) to your BioWare/EA account used for Star Wars: The Old Republic. It gives a time-based one-time code (TOTP) you enter along with your password to reduce account theft.

1. Delete any old "SWTOR" branded app from your phone.
2. Install Authy or Google Authenticator.
3. Remove the existing key from your account via the "Lost your key?" link.
4. Re-add the key, taking a photo of the Secret Key and Removal Key.
5. Enable automatic time sync on your phone.

You cannot simply move the app data. You must unlink the old key and link the new one.

1. Enhanced Security: By requiring a second form of verification, 2FA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized account access, even if a player's password is compromised.
2. Protection Against Phishing: The Security Key app makes it much more difficult for phishing attacks to succeed, as an attacker would need to obtain both the player's password and their mobile device.
3. Convenience: While it may seem counterintuitive, the Security Key app can actually make logging in to SWTOR more convenient. Players no longer need to worry about remembering complex passwords or using password managers.
