((better)) — Yarn
storytelling
Given the name, the most compelling direction combines the two meanings of the word: ("spinning a yarn") and connection (the physical thread).
- Store yarn in a cool, dry place: Avoid storing yarn in humid or extreme temperatures, as this can cause it to degrade or become damaged.
- Keep yarn away from direct sunlight: Direct sunlight can cause yarn to fade or discolor.
- Avoid exposure to chemicals: Avoid exposing yarn to chemicals, such as cleaning products or pesticides, as these can damage the fibers.
- Wash yarn gently: If yarn needs to be washed, do so gently and avoid using harsh chemicals or hot water.
- Pilling: Those little fuzzy balls on the surface. Caused by friction. Fix with a battery-operated fabric shaver or a yarn comb.
- Splitting: When your needle splits the plies of the yarn. Fix by using blunter needles (wood vs. metal) or switching to a less loosely spun yarn.
- Frogging: Ripping out stitches. The name comes from "Rip it, rip it" (sounds like a frog’s croak). Gently pull the working yarn backwards.
